1998 Chapter V

November - December 1998

The 6th of November I started together witch Fernando, a professional car painter, to redo my 203.

A few days before I took off the engine, we begun to take off: the engine hood, the front wings,

the 4 doors, the windshield and also the rear window, the bumpers, all the lights, the seats…. and the car was looking very poor like this.

We remarked that it was really time to redo the body: A lot of "holes" appears and Fernando begun his work: cut out of all the damaged parts, rebuild new ones and welded all together.

I took a lot of pictures and you can see they under Restoration Pictures of my 203

Because we are only working on Saturdays the work will be not so fast then I expected it, but we are working each time around 20 hours (both together)

I was forced to buy a heavy gas-heater because it was very cold (till -10 degrees)

Today the left (conductor) side is finished and we started with the right side.

This side was heavily damaged under the floor, have a look on the pictures. But nothing can stop Fernando....

I bought a steel plate from 2 square meters and he will use at least 50% of it….

I started to prepare the outside body for the painting, that means that I will take away completely the paint from the WHOLE body, a power consuming work.

Now, for the end of the year, Fernando is doing vacation in Portugal and I will continue to work on the 203.

The EURO is coming and the first advantage that I'll have is that there will be no change-fees between the Luxembourgish and the French money! I will buy now in January all the body seals (for the doors, windows, door-windows….) what will be an expensive part.

I think that I'll redo also the interior, task preview ed for the next winter because the contrast between the new exterior and an the old interior will be too great. Again some money away, but all the hobby's are normally expensive….

Else, I wish everybody a happy New Year and I'll be back beginning of January

with a few modifications on my pages.
